Summer Home Tour - Heather of One Horse Lane

My hubby and I bought this home last summer. I immediately loved the lot and and layout of the home.  We live on a quiet street that only gets traffic of the people living by us, or people coming to visit the families that live on our street.  We look out our back deck to 97 acres, and it just creates such a peace for me.

I mentioned that I loved the layout of our home, but the colors were too dark for me.  Lots of dark tans (even the ceilings).  I knew right away it would be a continual process of lightening things up and creating a space that reflected my style.

I love neutrals and the way natural light plays off of dimensional whites.  I also lean towards a farmhouse style when it comes to decorating.  I redid the kitchen and great room by painting everything white. I revamped lighting by taking what we had apart, painting, and adding Edison bulbs(I'm all about using what i already have when I can!) i did add a chandelier above our island that is new... And I love the bling it brings into the space!  I painted the back doors to the deck black because I wanted to draw the eye outward to our view.  I took down the dark wood blinds in our kitchen and family room and added tall drapes that I made from drop cloths and grainsack. I love how that helped to bring in light.

We spend a lot of time in our kitchen, because my hubby and I both enjoy cooking.  You can often find us all in there with music playing and the kiddos sitting at the bar chatting with us or coloring while we cook.

With 5 kids, our house is busy and friends are here often. We love to entertain and have people in our home, so the open space in the kitchen, great room, and nook works really well for that.  I also really love how many can be seated at our island. It can get crazy and loud, but I love it that way!

Music is a big part of our home and the piano room is frequented. Someone is always playing around on it, or a guitar, or drums, or just singing at the top of their lungs! (Like I said, it's busy around here ? ).

Our downstairs family room is still a work in progress, but it's slowly getting there. I have some fun ideas to add more character to the space. But right now, At least it is freshly painted a barely there light blue-gray. We added shelves we made to house the TV and display some old books and other favorite trinkets.  It's a favorite place to lounge on the couch in blankets and watch movies for our family.

I love refinishing furniture and adding my own touch to pieces I find.  Every room or space in my home has pieces I've made or refinished in some way, and I love the way that it reflects who I am and my style.  I love decorating with textures, antiques,  ironstone, vintage and French linens, and lots of pillows and cozy elements that still feel simplistic!

There are so many talented people that inspire me! A few favorites are Kate from Salvagedior, Marie from Dreamy Whites Lifestyle, and Marion from Miss Mustard Seed.  There are so many more though!

I'm so glad you took the time to take a little walk through my home! I hope you enjoyed it!  I'm loving the idea of having sneak peeks into others homes through the Summer Home Tour!

❤️ Much Love!
