9 Life Lessons from Our Favorite Girl Bosses

To me, there’s nothing better than an entrepreneurial woman. She is fierce, fearless, and can rock a pencil skirt like nobody’s business. Their business success is endlessly intriguing, but even more interesting is when they dish on lessons learned throughout their life’s journey.

Here are 9 pieces of advice from some of our favorite #girlbosses that motivate us, and are sure to inspire you too!

1. Stay humble, work hard, and have a good sense of humor.

It’s continuously humbling to work hard, you know? As long as you’ve got a good work ethic and a sense of humor, I don’t think anybody can become too much of an egoist under those circumstances.
— Rachel Ray

There is something about working hard every day that keeps you humble. When you know how ugly and un-glamorous the behind the scenes looks, you don't get egostistical about your success. Staying humble and keeping a good attitude has helped Rachel achieve success yet stay the same friendly and approachable girl we all knew at the beginning.

2. Keep an open mind.

Without an open-minded mind, you can never be a great success.
— Martha Stewart

Success is not a linear path, and if anyone knows this it's Martha Stewart. Her road to the top had many stops, some pleasant and some not so much. But by keeping an open mind, she has created a worldwide brand, and we forget about the not-so-fabulous pit stops on the path to her success.

3. Success is a recipe that requires more than one ingredient.

There is never just one thing that leads to success for anyone. I feel it is always a combination of passion, dedication, hard work, and being in the right place at the right time.
— Lauren Conrad

Putting yourself out there and being open to opportunity is certainly part of getting to the top. Success comes in many forms, and it also comes in a combination of things. Conrad made her success from being on Laguna Beach on MTV, but she took the platform to build something she was passionate about and grow it into something entirely different. Without hard work and dedication, she may have fallen back into obscurity after the show ended.

4. Women have the power to initiate change.

The most powerful thing is for women not just to be the beneficiaries of the change, but to be agents of it.
— Blake Lively

Lively spreads the message that women are powerful beyond measure. We don't have to wait for permission, or to just support great causes from the back seat. We should unapologetically take leadership roles and be agents for change on issues we are passionate about.

5. Embrace imperfection.

If everything was perfect, you would never learn and you would never grow.
— Beyonce

Imperfection helps us strive for better, and helps us try and find solutions for things that aren't working. In the process, we learn things about ourselves we never would have known without the difficulty. Listen to the Queen B and don't try and skip the struggle - embrace it!

6. There’s no place like home.

If you go anywhere, even paradise, you will miss your home.
— Malala Yousafzai

When working towards success, it's easy to forget what you already have, or worse, to lose appreciation for your home base. Don't ever forget that no matter how much money, success, or power you have, home will always be where your heart is.

7. Spend time nurturing your personal life.

My business doesn’t keep me warm at night.
— Bethenny Frankel

It's easy to neglect your family, husband, kids, and friends, all in the name of growing our business or reputation. When you feel your attention is being pulled away from your personal life too much, put on the breaks and re-evaluate what you are doing. After all, you can't cuddle up with your business and watch a movie after a long day at the office.

8. Always be the best version of you.

You can never take your reputation back. There really is nothing as powerful as a good reputation.
— Giuliana Rancic

Giuliana is the epitome of class. She is always kind, and makes sure to keep a filter on her personal life. She understands that with every bit of information we share with the world, we are shaping our reputation. Our reputation follows us everywhere we go, and once it's tainted, it's impossible to clean it up, so be mindful of what you're putting out there.

9. Don’t be afraid to take risks.

Take and chance and don’t ever look back. Never have regrets, just lessons learned.
— Kim Kardashian

Kim is a controversial character we sometimes look up to, and something don't. However, good or bad, she has built an empire for herself and her family from a bad situation, and she never fails to turn a negative into a positive. Family is always her greatest motivation, and she doesn't apologize for making mistakes - instead, she learns from them.
